FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
We are considering introducing a soft flooring/HVAC management program into our business – how do we go about this?
Contact a HBS professional, we will visit you to discuss your requirements, and recommend a commercial maintenance program best suiting your needs & budget. In many cases, this might involve a 12-monthly cycle, however for such programs as Aged care facilities or Healthcare it will mean a more regular servicing (every 3 to 6 months) This will not only extends the life of your building assets and soft flooring, more importantly it protects your people’s health and well-being.

Does HBS guarantee its work?
Yes. We guarantee to clean your soft flooring to exacting Australian Standards AS/NZS 3733:1995 and in line with the manufacturer’s recommendation, this includes guaranteeing not to damage your soft flooring and to revitalise it as much as possible, to our best abilities and expertise.

Do we use chemicals to treat your soft flooring?
Depending upon site challenges and its requirements. Although we do mostly use environmentally safe products (in many cases, naturally occurring products such as tea-tree) during soft floor treatments and decontamination of HVAC etc

Why should we consider installing soft flooring over other floorings?
Soft floorings represent the best filter for I.A.Q (Indoor Air Quality) issues; they provide warmth and comfort, whilst reducing noise and adding an element of beauty and style. Needless to say it also softens any falls, slips and wears well if properly maintained over time, soft floorings are also less expensive comparatively over other flooring options.

What are VOC's (Volatile Organic Compounds)?
VOC's are Organic Compounds which contain the element, Carbon. VOC's evaporate easily at room temperature and often have a sharp smell. Common sources which emit VOC's into indoor air include housekeeping and maintenance products, office equipment, adhesives, carpeting, upholstery, paints and solvents. Given sufficient quantities, VOC's can cause eye, nose, and throat irritations, headaches, dizziness, visual disorders, memory impairment and some VOC's have been recognised as carcinogenic in certain situations, especially if highly concentrated indoors.

Mould and VOC misconceptions -  There are misconceptions about soft flooring involving mould and the emission of VOCs. Although mould grows in any moist environment where dirt and dust provide nutrients, by keeping your soft floorings clean and dry makes it difficult for mould to grow on such dry, clean synthetic or wool carpet.

Soft flooring is also commonly (and wrongly) linked to high VOC levels. Scientific studies show new soft flooring is one of the lowest emitters of VOCs into an indoor environment, and that such emissions dissipate very quickly. Low-level VOC emissions and the harmless odour from brand new soft flooring disappear within the first 48 to 72 hours after installation (even sooner with open windows or doors as per the green star rating).
